Scholarship Opportunities

The Scholarship Committee has two separate areas of responsibility dealing with the administration of two ongoing scholarship initiatives.

CFA Houston Scholarship Award Program

The process for selecting the scholarship recipients begins by notification to the CFA of Houston Society members and the scholarship offices at the business schools at the University of Houston and Rice University that the CFA of Houston is accepting applications for our society's annual scholarship award program.  Then the scholarship offices assist our society by administering the application process.  Applicants are asked to submit a resume, transcript, statement of financial need and answer a few short questions about why they are pursuing the CFA® designation. Eventually, selected applicants are interviewed to further discuss their course of study, their interest in the investment profession, and their plans to pursue the CFA designation.

CFA Institute CFA® Scholarship Program

As part of its commitment to education, and the local chapters, CFA Institute provides the funding for ten(10)scholarships annually to be distributed by CFA of Houston Society to local CFA® candidates to use towards their registration and enrollment fees for the June exams of the CFA® Program.  Applicants for this Society's scholarship must live within 200 miles of Houston, Texas, must be eligible to enroll into the CFA Program, and must not be reimbursed by their company for the exam fees.  CFA exam level I, II or III candidates are eligible to apply for these scholarships.  Applicants may be students, Society members or prospective Society members.

CFAH is currently accepting applications for the 2009-2010 CFA Institute
CFA® Scholarship Program.  The submission deadline is . . .  January 15, 2010.

If you plan on taking the CFA exam in June, 2010 (Level I, II, or III), whether you have already registered or not, the CFA Society of Houston is offering up to ten (10) CFA Exam scholarships that cover all but $220 of the registration and exam fees (which currently for CFA Level I registration runs over $1080, hence a pretty good deal). These scholarships are offered by the CFA Institute, and administered through the local societies.
